Our Online Shop

Our shop has been online since October 2023. Here we sell individual doors for the IKEA Billy bookcase.

So, if you're looking for an alternative to the classic Oxberg door from IKEA for your Billy bookcase, you've come to the right place. Our range includes various designs with smooth or fluted surfaces. These can be ordered with an integrated handle on the side or top. Of course, we also offer smooth fronts without handles. What's special about us is that you can even choose the color of your new Billy door. We paint your front in any color from the  RAL color palette or NCS color palette. We also offer a high-quality wooden front, which is a chipboard with oak wood veneer. This is, of course, FSC certified. All other fronts are made of MDF and are painted semi-matte.

How did the idea for a shop for individual Billy fronts come about?

During Corona, I spent a lot of time in my home office – in our living room. We have two large Billy bookcases with extension units and the classic Oxberg doors there. I really love these shelves because they simply have the perfect dimensions, and with their classic design, they fit into any room.

I then bought a new lowboard from Westwing with a fluted front for the living room. The design is super beautiful, and I really wanted the Billy shelves to have the same fluted look. So, a Billy hack for the fluted look was needed.

You can find the exact instructions here.

After some time, I realized that this article gets a lot of monthly visitors, so apparently, many people are looking for an alternative to the classic Billy door or like furniture with a fluted look.

According to Ikea, a Billy bookcase is sold somewhere in the world every five seconds, which corresponds to over six million sales per year. In 2021, it was even sold eight million times. Since 1999, IKEA has sold more than 77,000,000 BILLY bookcases to date.

So I thought: Okay, the demand must be big enough.

So I started looking for suppliers of furniture fronts in Poland and fortunately found a reliable producer.

Determining the range

The first samples immediately convinced us. We ordered a fluted door in white and a wooden door with oak veneer, also with a fluted look.

Both doors looked so high-quality that it was immediately clear to us – we had to bring them to market.

We also decided to include simple doors in a smooth design in our range. However, those who wish can also order these with an integrated handle. When our producer also said that it was possible to produce the fronts in any color, we were even more on fire.

Our Challenges

However, a major challenge was finding the right hinge. Because IKEA doesn't sell the hinge individually – only as a spare part at the claims counter. So we ordered some hinges from Amazon, and after a few misfires, we found a model that fits the Billy bookcase perfectly (from model 2014). The required diameter on the front itself is larger, but we can customize that in our production. This also provides more stability. Since our doors are more than twice as heavy as the original Billy doors due to the high-quality material, this is also an advantage.

We are currently still looking for the perfect packaging. At the moment, our producer makes each package himself so that the doors arrive well protected at our customers' homes. However, since we cannot currently purchase large quantities, this topic is still a small challenge.

Of course, we want to constantly expand our product range. We currently offer our individual doors for the Billy bookcase in 4 sizes. The classic 40x97 cm. These are also the dimensions of the Oxberg door. In addition, we have the door for the extension unit with 40x35 cm and our own optimized size: 40x37 cm. But we also have large doors in the size 40x192 cm.

Who is our target audience, anyway?

Here we have a perfect testimonial: our friend Lena. We told her about our online shop, and she was totally enthusiastic. She said she still has an old Billy bookcase from her student days in her kitchen. It's not an optical highlight and looks messy because she doesn't have any doors for it, but it would also be a shame to throw it away. She immediately liked the idea of sprucing it up with our doors. She is also looking for doors that match the color of her kitchen fronts.

That's exactly our target group. People who already have a Billy bookcase and love it, but just need a new, modern look at home.

Of course, there are also IKEA lovers who buy a new Billy bookcase and are not satisfied with the selection of available fronts. They will definitely find something suitable in our shop.

Feel free to write to us about what patterns you would like. Do you think a front with a height of 227cm would be interesting, as it could be used for a Billy bookcase with an extension unit? It's best to leave us a comment on
